On Wednesday I mentioned some of the verses I’m using these days to keep my thoughts and emotions aligned with God.

In various stages of my life, I’ve clung to different verses.

Here are some that have meant a lot to me over the years:

“Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God.”   ‑ Isaiah 50:10b NIV

“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”         ‑ Isaiah 40:31 NIV

“The Lord is faithful to all His promises, and loving toward all He has made. The Lord upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.”    ‑ Psalm 145:13b,14 NIV

“He tends His flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart; He gently leads those that have young.”    ‑ Isaiah 40:11 NIV

“A bruised reed He will not break, and a smouldering wick He will not snuff out.” – Isaiah 42:3a NIV

What are some verses that have meant the most to you?

He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it. Phil. 1:6

God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, of love and of a sound mind. 2 Tim. 1:7

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Cor. 10:5

…always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Eph. 5:20

Ahh. These verses are so good. They soothe my soul. I’m adding them to my collection. I love “Fear thou not, for I am with thee. Be not dismayed, for I am thy God. I will strengthen thee. Yea I will help thee. Yea I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10

Forgive the KJV. It’s what I memorized verses in when I was little and I can’t get away from it. Not sure I want to. They speak to me in that version.

Yes, that’s another strong one, Ginny. There are so many! And I struggle, if I’ve memorized a verse in one translation, with even reading it aloud in another. I trip and stumble and it sounds like I can’t read. (Not that I have a huge mental repertoire!!)

These are verses of comfort. Here’s one I go back to many times — I’m not sure which translation it comes from: “….In quietness & confidence before God, we find the real source of strength to stay calm…” Isaiah 30:15. I’ve come across it in other versions but this is the one that really speaks to me.
