My Favourite Genre

Stack of books and e-reader

This was my summer-reading stack a few years ago… some are still waiting…

Back to the biweekly writers’ blog hop again… this week we’re chatting about our favourite genres.

I love writing Christian suspense. Good thing, with two more books planned for the Redemption’s Edge series! I’ve dabbled in speculative fiction too, and that’s another genre I want to pursue. Still have those three characters sitting in a corner of my brain waiting for a science fiction plot.

But I thought Ruth L. Snyder‘s question for this week was about our favourite genre to read. I’m not quite as eclectically-interested as Steph Beth Nickel, but one look at my review list will confirm I’m pretty scattered. That’s a good thing for writers, because it keeps us learning.

Favourite genre: action/adventure, clean and fun. Best from a Christian worldview, whether it mentions God or not. It may show up in suspense, speculative, or historical. Any genre. If it makes me laugh too, that’s a bonus.

Feel free to leave me some reading suggestions in the comments, and share your own favourites.

And stop back tomorrow: there’ll be a special Saturday post with more birthday-month news.

Join me in visiting the other stops on the blog hop and checking out everyone else’s favourite genre(s). Just click the blog hop graphic below.

Thanks for your post, Janet. The picture of your reading pile made me smile. Mine is scattered around my house, but it’s every bit as high and probably as varied as yours 🙂 Then there’s all the e-books I’ve downloaded . . .

What this week’s blog hop posts have done is made me more aware than ever of the many people interested in reading and writing fantasy, science and spec fiction. These must be genres that are growing in popularity with readers. I’m sure you could pull off such a book, Janet.

Thanks for the encouragement, Violet. I hope there are a few sf or speculative books in my future… not likely anything epic, but hopefully fun 🙂

Thanks for doing this contest, Janet. I’ve read reviews of your book and it sounds like a good read. I read fiction in several genres and I have piles of books too–my husband says I have books, notebooks and piles of paper on every horizontal surface. A bit exaggerated, but. . .

Have you ever read any of Penelope Wilcock’s books? The only one I have read thus far – and really enjoyed – is The Hardest Thing To Do, which I reviewed on my blog. It is historical fiction, which is one of my favourites genres to read.

Thanks for the recommendation, Lynn. I haven’t read any of Penelope Wilcock’s books, but your review of The Hardest Thing To Do makes the story sound like a very good read. (Other readers, click here for Lynn’s review.)

If you haven’t tried Heather Day Gilbert’s God’s Daughter or Christine Lindsay’s Twilight of the British Raj series, I think you’d like them too 🙂
