Short on Motivation?

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
Philippians 2:13, NLT*

I’ve always thought this verse talked about those activities and roles that God leads (or pushes) us into, where we rely on His power and we’re motivated by a passion from Him.

But look a little deeper. As well as the key activities, our days are full of the mundane and the routine: opportunities to please God, to show the results of our salvation.

Those moments often escape our notice, but it’s the small things that add up over time.

We need to depend on God working in us, giving us the desire and the power to do what pleases Him in the day-to-day.

Do we ask Him, every morning? Do we remember, when we’re knee-deep in routine?

God our Maker, our Shepherd, and He who plans good things for us, on our own we have nothing that could please You. Open our eyes to see what You see, and give us the desire to please You in the big and in the small. Help us to live for You in love and in trust.

Steve Fee’s song, “Send Me Out,” is more about those big things God might be asking us to do, but He can send us out to our kitchens or our workplaces…
