Amanda and Chris have lived the past year grieving the loss of their baby, each carrying job stress, and slowly growing apart. An unexpected request for Amanda to accompany an older neighbour to Israel before Christmas may be the catalyst to change everything.
This faith-filled story brings heartfelt family drama, new friendships, answered prayer, and a chance for readers to vicariously visit the Wailing Wall, Bethlehem, and a few other sites in and near Jerusalem.
Davis Bunn excels at bringing exotic settings to life, as well as creating characters we can care about. I did find this one a bit passive in much of the narrative, but the story drew me to keep reading. Definitely a feel-good Christmas read.

Crime podcaster Morgan Scott has a successful online career (complete with crazy stalker and an incarcerated murderer who has vowed revenge) but she doesn’t have many in-person friends.
Sitting home alone over the Christmas holidays would just give her time to brood about her enemies, so she decides to follow up on an old murder in a town so remote that it’s barely marked on the map: Birchardville, Pennsylvania.
Her life in Florida has not prepared her for winter with actual snow. And while Birchardville may be remote, danger still finds her there.
I liked the fact that Morgan is Asian-American (her birth name is Chen Meifeng). This doesn’t factor much into the story, but it’s nice to see a protagonist who’s not your standard Caucasian.
What does factor in is her independent, self-reliant, sometimes-funny personality. And as one Birchardville resident says, she’s “theologically sound.”
I enjoyed the author’s voice in this story, and will be looking for more of her books.

Who doesn’t need a little extra encouragement this December, after the year we’ve had? Yes, there’s been good as well as the bad, but many of us are a little weary.

Tenacity at Christmas is a collection of short, conversational daily devotions for the month of December (hence the “early gift”).
Funny enough, I’ve been working on this little book since releasing the 365-day devotional book A Year of Tenacity back in 2017. Originally this was going to be a free ebook with 7 entries. Then it grew to 12. Now it’s 31.
And did you ever have a project come together so easily it stunned you? That’s this book for me, this year. Even the formatting, which I do myself and which usually leaves me pulling my hair. It took more than one try but far less than the 17-plus my other books need.
I feel like God gave me a bit of extra grace in the writing, finishing, and releasing this one. Not that I’m claiming it has any “special anointing” content-wise! But this is a year when we need extra sources of encouragement. From that perspective, here’s one more resource.
